Yxsterday Turns Pain Into Purpose With Powerful New EP "Protest Pack"

In an era where authenticity matters more than ever, DMV-based spoken word artist and emcee Yxsterday continues to carve out his own lane. His latest release, "Protest Pack," isn't just another EP, it's a statement, a reflection, and a reminder that great art often rises from adversity.

Featuring standout tracks such as "RINSE & REPEAT" featuring 33dontay and "UpLaws" featuring Cameron Lush, the five-track project captures emotions born from years of social unrest, personal growth, and hard-earned wisdom. Some of the material dates back more than a decade, while other songs were inspired by the aftermath of the George Floyd protests and more recent events.

For Yxsterday, music is bigger than entertainment.

"How I find strength through ruin, how I stand up in plight, and how I burn the narratives that are afoot. These pains are a cycle, but this music is the break from it."

That mentality has made him one of the most unique voices emerging from the DMV. Raised in a family of activists and connected to legendary comedian Tommy Davidson, Yxsterday combines purpose with creativity in a way that separates him from today's crowd.

Outside of music, Yxsterday recently earned his Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan, using music and poetry as tools for healing within his therapy practice. Whether he's helping patients process grief or writing lyrics to work through his own experiences, his mission remains the same: connection.

Unlike artists chasing quick singles and viral moments, Yxsterday approaches music with the mindset of building something timeless. Every project is carefully crafted with the bigger picture in mind, making his catalog feel more like chapters in a book than random playlists.

His own words summarize the mission perfectly:

"If I can take you to a place in my mind and make you feel how I feel while in this space, and cause you to think for time far after you visit; then I have done my job as a poet."— Yxsterday

With "Protest Pack", the artist once again proves that substance, purpose, and lyricism still matter. As he continues working toward what he calls his magnum opus, Yxsterday is steadily establishing himself as one of the most thoughtful and respected voices blending poetry, hip-hop, and healing.
